Finding Fall in Florida

Florida is finally seeing a shift in the weather, with the first real signs of fall arriving after an extended period of summer heat.

The Sunshine State is experiencing cooler mornings, lower humidity, and abundant sunshine—a welcome change for both residents and local businesses that have been navigating a long stretch of heat advisories and tropical systems.

Forecasts from the National Weather Service indicate that Florida will see continued sunny conditions, with daytime highs in the low 80s and overnight lows dropping to the mid-60s. This marks a noticeable departure from the oppressive temperatures seen just weeks ago, presenting favorable conditions for outdoor events, retail activity, and hospitality businesses.

Compared to last fall, which was marked by above-average rainfall and recurring tropical storms, this season has started on a much drier note. In 2024, Orlando fell short of its usual rainfall totals, with just 32.86 inches by early October—well below the typical 43.89 inches. In contrast, this year’s fall is trending toward below-normal precipitation, as noted by the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center.

The current conditions are influenced in part by the emergence of weak La Niña patterns in the Pacific, which generally bring warmer and drier weather to Florida, though this event is not expected to be particularly strong or long-lasting.

Looking ahead, Florida businesses and residents can expect these mild, dry conditions to continue into the end of October. Temperatures should remain near or slightly above the seasonal average, and rainfall will likely stay below normal levels. This period of pleasant weather offers an excellent opportunity for outdoor commerce, community events, and preparations for the upcoming holiday season, providing a much-needed respite from the recent months of extreme heat and humidity.
