It's wild, but yes—no AI, no joke—a pet kangaroo wearing a diaper really did show up on the beach.

On November 30, 2025, people spotted this kangaroo on a leash, just hopping along Fort Myers Beach in Florida. The scene turned heads. Locals grabbed their phones, snapped photos and videos, and sent them to the news, because, honestly, who expects to see a kangaroo in diapers at the beach?

Of course, this got the attention of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. They’re digging into it now, trying to figure out if the owner has the right permits. In Florida, it’s actually legal to own a kangaroo, but you need specific paperwork from the FWC since kangaroos are considered Class III wildlife.

Here’s how it works: If you have a personal pet permit, your kangaroo stays home—no trips to public places allowed. If you want to show off your kangaroo in public or use it for business, you need a separate exhibition license—either from the state or the USDA.

There are also local rules to think about. Fort Myers Beach usually doesn’t even allow dogs on the sand, so parading a kangaroo around is definitely unusual. The FWC is checking whether the owner had permission for a public display.

If you want to see all the fine print on Florida’s wildlife regulations, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s website has it all.
