Roy Disney and Mickey Mouse opening day Walt Disney World October 1, 1971

On this day in 1971, Walt Disney World opens in Central Florida.

Can you believe it’s been 54 years since Walt Disney World first flung open those gates? It feels like yesterday, people tripping over their own feet on Main Street, eyes wide as saucers.

Fast-forward to 2025, and the place is the gold standard for theme park magic. It’s wild how this castle in Florida keeps cranking out memories like a nostalgia factory.

Four parks, a gazillion resorts, food that'll make you forget you’re eating in a theme park (hello, Mickey-shaped everything), and shows that’ll straight-up make you cry in public.

If you haven’t screamed your lungs out on Space Mountain, wandered the World Showcase with a snack in each hand, or stood gawking at those epic fireworks at the end of the night, then get on the ball.

Here’s to 54 years of dreams, sugar rushes, and a whole lotta pixie dust. Cheers, Walt Disney World. Don’t ever grow up.
