Invest 96L (yellow cone) is disorganized and fading quickly in the central Atlantic, not doing a whole lot except drifting north. Perhaps it’ll pull itself together midweek, but odds are low, 10% in the next two days, and only 20% over the next week. Not looking like hurricane material.

Invest 97L (red cone) is something to watch. It’s hanging out just southeast of the Cabo Verde Islands, chugging west-northwest at a decent clip—think 15 to 20 mph. There’s a bunch of showers and storms with it, and the environment’s actually giving it a shot to develop. Looks like it could turn into a tropical depression sometime this week. Right now, it’s already tossing some heavy rain and gusty winds at Cabo Verde, so if you’re there, maybe keep an umbrella handy (or just stay indoors). The odds? By the end of the week, chances of development are 80%. 97L is one to watch.
