On Sunday, Trump administration officials sat down with Ukrainian negotiators in Hallandale Beach, just north of Miami. Their goal: find a way to end the war in Ukraine and prepare for the high-stakes talks happening this week in Moscow with Vladimir Putin.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner—all key players—joined the conversation, digging into the details of a possible peace deal.
The first draft, a 28-point proposal, expected Ukraine to make major concessions. Kyiv and European leaders pushed back, so negotiators went back to the drawing board and made significant changes.
All this unfolds at a tough time for Ukraine. Russian forces are still inside the country, two years after the invasion. On top of that, Ukraine is wrestling with a corruption scandal at home. The pressure’s on, and these talks couldn’t come at a more critical moment.
